Shahid Rind Invites Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors for Consultations on Proposed Media Policy

QUETTA: Shahid Rind has said that the Government of Balochistan supports consultation with all stakeholders regarding its proposed media policy and has invited the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors to Quetta to present its recommendations.

Responding to concerns raised by CPNE over the proposed policy, Rind said the provincial government believes in a free, responsible, and professional media and values the opinions of all relevant stakeholders.

He said the government is not seeking confrontation with media organizations but is committed to constructive dialogue. If CPNE has reservations or recommendations regarding the proposed policy, the government is prepared to consider them seriously.

Rind formally invited the leadership of CPNE to visit Quetta for detailed consultations with the provincial government and to submit its proposals so that the media policy can be further refined in light of those recommendations.

He said the government’s objective is not to discriminate against any segment of the media industry but to establish a transparent, merit-based framework that reflects modern media requirements. According to Rind, if consultations identify areas where the policy can be improved, the government will give positive recommendations due consideration.

The adviser added that the position of Mir Sarfraz Bugti is clear: the proposed media framework is intended to ensure transparency, merit, equal opportunities, and a balanced regulatory system for all media sectors, and the government remains open to incorporating constructive suggestions from stakeholders.
