Pakistan’s Weekly Inflation Falls to 13.52%, Though Prices of Several Essential Items Rise

Islamabad: Pakistan’s weekly inflation rate declined by 0.98 percent, bringing the overall annual inflation rate to 13.52 percent, according to the latest report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Despite the overall decline in inflation, prices of 23 essential commodities increased during the week.

According to the PBS, tomatoes recorded the sharpest increase, with prices surging by 125.40 percent, followed by onions, which rose 10.72 percent, and potatoes, up 10.06 percent.

The report also showed that egg prices increased by 8.32 percent, while wheat flour became 5.08 percent more expensive. Prices of milk, yogurt, rice, and several other essential food items also registered increases.

Meanwhile, some commodities became cheaper during the week. Chicken prices declined by 1.97 percent, while bananas fell 1.44 percent. Prices of pulses, sugar, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and garlic also recorded decreases, according to the bureau.
