Viral NASA Mars Image Sparks Fresh Debate Over ‘Alien Gun’ Claim

Washington: A photograph of Mars originally released years ago by the U.S. space agency NASA has gone viral again on social media, with some users claiming that a mysterious object in the image resembles an “alien gun.”
The image was captured by NASA’s Opportunity Rover in 2014 during its mission on the Red Planet. Recently, an unusually shaped rock visible in the photograph has attracted widespread attention online, prompting speculation among some social media users.
However, many others have dismissed the claim, arguing that the object is most likely an ordinary rock shaped by natural geological processes rather than evidence of extraterrestrial technology.
NASA has consistently maintained that there is currently no scientific evidence of past or present extraterrestrial life on Mars. According to the agency, none of the rovers sent to explore the planet have discovered any findings that confirm the existence of alien life.
The Opportunity Rover landed on Mars in 2004 to investigate signs of ancient water and study the planet’s geology. Communication with the rover was lost in July 2018 following a massive dust storm, and after several unsuccessful attempts to re-establish contact, NASA officially declared the mission complete in February 2019.
