UK PM Starmer Urges Lebanon Ceasefire as UN Chief Calls for Renewed Diplomacy

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called for Lebanon to be immediately included in a ceasefire, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement, Starmer emphasized that significant efforts are needed to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. He also welcomed the recent US-Iran talks held in Islamabad, describing diplomacy as the only viable path toward achieving a sustainable ceasefire.

The British premier further stressed that ongoing bombardment in Lebanon is creating a severe humanitarian crisis and must come to an immediate halt.

Meanwhile, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated that after weeks of destruction and unrest, it has become clear that there is no military solution to the current Middle East conflict.

Guterres urged all parties to resume negotiations to reach an agreement, calling for an immediate end to ceasefire violations. He also stressed the importance of respecting international law, including ensuring freedom of navigation in key waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The statements come as global leaders intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further humanitarian fallout in the region.
