PTI Detained Leaders Urge Party to Contest AJK Elections in Letter from Jail

RAWALPINDI: Detained leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Yasmin Rashid and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, have reportedly sent a letter from jail to the party’s chairman and secretary general, urging the party to participate in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections.
According to PTI sources, the letter was delivered through the detained leaders’ legal counsel.
In the letter, the incarcerated leaders reportedly requested the party to contest the AJK elections despite the recent decision of the AJK Supreme Court. They said they had discussed the electoral situation and concluded that the party should remain part of the democratic process.
The letter further stated that PTI-backed candidates should participate in the elections and that the party should publicly announce the names of all candidates receiving its official support.
PTI sources said the message and the letter were conveyed to the party leadership through the leaders’ lawyer.
The contents of the letter are based on statements from PTI sources, and there was no immediate public response from the party leadership.
