Kylian Mbappé Sets New FIFA World Cup Knockout Scoring Record, Surpasses Ronaldo and Klose

France: France’s star forward Kylian Mbappé achieved another historic milestone at the FIFA World Cup 2026, becoming the highest scorer in the tournament’s knockout stage after leading his team to victory over Sweden.

The 28-year-old striker scored two goals in France’s 3-0 win over Sweden in the Round of 32, playing a pivotal role in securing his side’s place in the next round.

With the brace, Mbappé increased his overall FIFA World Cup tally to 18 goals, surpassing Germany’s legendary striker Miroslav Klose on the tournament’s all-time scoring chart.

The two goals also took Mbappé’s total to 10 goals in World Cup knockout matches, setting a new all-time record for the most goals scored in the knockout stages of the competition.

The previous record was held by Brazilian football legend Ronaldo, who scored eight knockout-stage goals during his World Cup career. France’s Just Fontaine and Brazil’s Pelé are next on the list with seven goals each.

Mbappé’s latest achievement further cements his place among the greatest players in FIFA World Cup history as France continues its campaign for another world title.
