Punjab CM Orders Probe After 14 Children Die in Lahore Tuition Centre Roof Collapse

Lahore:Punjab Chief Minister **Maryam Nawaz** has expressed profound grief over the deaths of children in the roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area, ordering a transparent investigation and strict action against those found responsible.

In a statement, the chief minister extended her condolences to the bereaved families, saying that as a mother she could understand the immense pain of the parents and that words were insufficient to express the tragedy.

According to official information, rescue teams responded immediately after the incident and safely evacuated around **20 children** from the building. However, **14 children lost their lives** in what the chief minister described as a deeply tragic and irreparable loss.

Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to conduct a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into the incident, stressing that anyone found guilty of negligence would face legal action. She also ordered a province-wide review of the structural safety of educational institutions and called for the development of stronger building safety measures to prevent similar incidents.

Meanwhile, the **Special Branch** and police have prepared a preliminary investigation report. The collapse occurred at a tuition centre operating in a residential building in **Basti Eidgah, Abloowali Gali, Kahna**.

The report states that around **18 to 20 children** were present in the building when the roof collapsed. The victims were reportedly between **6 and 12 years of age**. Investigators said the roof was supported by **T-R girders**, while tile installation work was underway on the upper floor at the time of the incident.

Police have arrested **three individuals**, including the building owner, **Rehan**, the injured female teacher **Anila**—who is also the owner’s wife—and the mason responsible for constructing the building. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse and whether building safety regulations were violated.
