Balochistan Government Committed to Improving Public Welfare Through Transparency and Development, Says Chief Secretary

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens by utilizing all available resources to promote public welfare, transparency, and accountable governance.

Speaking at a conference of deputy commissioners in Quetta, the chief secretary said the government considers public service and welfare its foremost responsibility. He stated that the administration’s priorities include improving public services, healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and basic infrastructure while ensuring transparency, accountability, and public participation.

The meeting reviewed progress on ongoing development projects across the province, monitoring of food prices, action against hoarding, the repatriation of illegally residing foreign nationals, and the resolution of public complaints through open public forums.

During a briefing, the Additional Chief Secretary informed participants that the Monitoring and Evaluation Section had inspected 2,898 out of 3,020 development projects across Balochistan, finding 2,382 schemes completed.

The briefing further stated that under Balochistan Sustainable Development Initiative (BSDI) Phase I and Phase II, 1,765 out of 2,178 development schemes have been completed, while work on the remaining projects is progressing and expected to finish soon.

Chief Secretary Khan emphasized that timely completion of development projects directly improves living standards by enhancing access to essential services, employment, education, healthcare, and transportation infrastructure.

The conference also reviewed measures taken by district administrations to stabilize prices of essential commodities through regular market inspections and enforcement of official price lists. Officials were instructed to ensure that no trader sells goods above government-approved rates.

The chief secretary directed authorities to intensify action against hoarders to ensure essential commodities remain available to the public at affordable prices.

Officials also briefed the meeting on the ongoing repatriation of illegally residing foreign nationals, stating that approximately 800,000 individuals have so far been returned from Balochistan. The repatriation process, they said, will continue in an organized manner.

Emphasizing citizen engagement, the chief secretary instructed deputy commissioners to continue holding regular open public forums (Khuli Katcheries) to address public grievances promptly and improve service delivery at the district level.
