14 Children Killed After Roof Collapses at Home-Based Tuition Center in Lahore

Lahore: At least 14 children were killed and four others, including a female teacher, were injured after the roof of a house being used as a tuition center collapsed in the Kahna area of Lahore on Tuesday.

According to rescue officials, around 20 children were pulled from the debris. Fourteen of them were pronounced dead, while six survived and are reported to be out of immediate danger. Authorities fear that another 10 to 15 children may still be trapped beneath the rubble.

The incident occurred in Basti Eid Gah, a rural locality of Kahna, where a woman had been running a tuition center from her home. Around 35 children reportedly attended classes there every day.

Residents alerted emergency services immediately after the collapse. Police, rescue teams, and local volunteers launched a search-and-rescue operation, successfully pulling several children and the female teacher from the debris.

Rescue officials said many of the children were buried under large amounts of soil after the roof, constructed with T-R girders, gave way. Emergency workers cleared mud from the children’s mouths and noses to restore breathing before rushing them to nearby hospitals. Several of the rescued children were initially found in critical condition.

Authorities are using their hands instead of heavy equipment to remove debris in an effort to avoid injuring anyone who may still be trapped. Rescue officials said the operation could take several more hours to complete.

The Medical Superintendent of THQ Kahna Hospital confirmed that 14 children had died in the incident, while the female teacher and four children sustained injuries.

Initial reports identified the teacher as Anila Rehan, who allegedly operated the tuition center from her residence. Authorities said the building was in a dilapidated condition. Police have taken the property owner and one other individual into custody as investigations into the cause of the collapse continue.
