US Confirms Doha Talks With Iran, Tehran Denies Any Planned Meeting

Washington: Conflicting statements from the United States and Iran have cast uncertainty over reports of high-level talks scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar.

The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former senior adviser Jared Kushner will travel to Doha to participate in high-level discussions with Iranian officials.

According to international media reports, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the announcement during an interview with Fox News, saying the U.S. delegation would travel to the Qatari capital for meetings related to ongoing discussions over a proposed memorandum of understanding.

She added that, alongside the high-level meetings, technical-level discussions would also be held to review progress on various issues.

Earlier, President Donald Trump had also stated on social media that Iran had requested a meeting and that negotiations between the two countries would take place in Doha on Tuesday.

However, Iran has firmly denied the claim.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said there are no plans for any meeting with U.S. officials in Qatar, rejecting the American assertion.

The contradictory statements from Washington and Tehran have created uncertainty over whether the reported negotiations will actually take place, with further clarification from both sides expected in the coming hours.
