Sindh Minister Warns Pink Scooters Will Be Confiscated if Used by Men

Karachi:Sindh Senior Minister and Information Minister **Sharjeel Inam Memon** has announced that pink scooters provided under the provincial government’s women’s mobility initiative will be confiscated if they are found being used by men.

Speaking during a session of the Sindh Assembly, Memon said the government is committed to expanding environmentally friendly transportation and women’s mobility across the province.

He stated that the Sindh government introduced **Pakistan’s first electric (EV) buses** and is now preparing to launch an **EV taxi scheme** as well as a **Pink Taxi Scheme** exclusively for women.

Memon said that while purchasing buses is relatively straightforward, developing the necessary charging and operational infrastructure is a greater challenge. He added that the government plans to introduce **500 electric buses within the next two to three months** and will also bring more **double-decker buses** to Karachi.

Highlighting the impact of the Pink Scooter Scheme, the minister said that when the initiative was launched, only **150 women** held valid driving licenses. He noted that the number has since increased significantly, with **25,000 women** currently applying for driving licenses.

He warned that if any man is found riding a pink scooter allocated under the scheme, **the vehicle will be taken into government custody**.

Memon also highlighted the performance of the **Sindh Revenue Board (SRB)**, claiming it had outperformed the **Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)** in revenue growth. According to him, the FBR recorded **10 percent growth**, while the SRB achieved **24 percent growth**.

The minister further said the Sindh government is using **artificial intelligence (AI)** to assist with social media monitoring. He added that Sindh is the only province to have enacted a **Journalists Protection Bill**, emphasizing that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) remains committed to protecting press freedom.
