National Party Leader Senator Jan Muhammad Baledi Criticizes PECA Act as “Black Law

Quetta:Senator Jan Muhammad Baledi, a central leader of the National Party, has strongly criticized the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), calling it a “black law” aimed at restricting freedom of speech and expression. In his statement, Baledi emphasized that while the country’s constitution guarantees fundamental human rights, the PECA Act is in direct conflict with these rights.

He pointed out that the failure of firewalls and the inability to achieve desired objectives led to the establishment of the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority. The Act, according to him, also seeks to deny affected individuals the right to appeal in the higher courts.

Baledi urged political and democratic parties in the country to reconsider their stance on the Act, warning that failing to do so could lead to regret in the future. He stressed that now is the time for political parties and media organizations to consult and find a solution.

The National Party has announced its opposition to the PECA Act and pledged to play an active role in the movement against it.
