One Killed, Five Injured Including Four Police Officers in Gun Attack in Ziarat

QUETTA: One person was killed and five others, including four police officers, were injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire near a police checkpoint in Balochistan’s Ziarat district on Saturday, officials said.

According to Deputy Commissioner Abdul Qadoos Achakzai, the attackers targeted police personnel deployed at the Zero Point checkpoint. At the time of the attack, the convoy of the Ziarat Superintendent of Police (SP) was also passing through the area, and the assailants opened fire on the convoy as well.

A civilian identified as Nasir was killed in the incident. Four police officers—Muhammad Asif, Nazeer Ahmed, Saddam, and Asghar—along with a passerby, Ziaullah, sustained injuries.

The injured were provided initial medical treatment at the District Hospital in Ziarat before being shifted to Quetta for further care. Security forces later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Provincial Minister Noor Muhammad Dummar strongly condemned the attack, describing the targeting of members of the Tablighi Jamaat near Prospect Point in Ziarat as a cowardly act of terrorism.

Expressing sorrow over the death of one member of the religious group and the injuries sustained by others, including a police officer, the minister directed the local administration to ensure that the wounded receive the best possible medical treatment.

He said the attack on unarmed and innocent civilians reflected the desperation of terrorist elements seeking to undermine the peaceful environment of Ziarat and spread fear among the public, adding that such attempts would not succeed.
