Owner of Quetta’s Popular Kabul Jan Restaurant Shot Dead in Targeted Attack

QUETTA:** The owner of Quetta’s well-known Kabul Jan Restaurant, Mohammad Hashim Norzai, was shot dead by unidentified armed assailants in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred near Usmania Hotel on Kuchlak Bypass within the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station. Norzai, a resident of Wazir Abad, Kuchlak, was driving alone in his Vigo vehicle from his home towards the city when gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Police said the victim’s vehicle was found with multiple bullet holes. Witnesses claimed that police arrived at the crime scene nearly an hour after the attack. By that time, Norzai had succumbed to his injuries, and a friend transported his body to Civil Hospital.

A doctor who examined the body at Civil Hospital said Norzai sustained three gunshot wounds—one to the head and two to the arms. The head injury proved fatal, and he died at the scene.

The motive behind the killing remains unknown. Family members told police that Norzai had no known personal enmity with anyone. Investigators have collected evidence from the crime scene and launched an investigation.

Mohammad Hashim Norzai was regarded as one of Quetta’s prominent businessmen. He had established Kabul Jan Restaurant on Airport Road in October last year, and it quickly became one of the city’s most popular dining destinations.
