Suspected Cholera Outbreak in Bajaur Leaves Two Girls Dead, Ten Family Members Hospitalized

Bajaur: A suspected cholera outbreak has been reported in the Bandgai area of Utman Khel Tehsil in Bajaur, where ten members of a single family fell seriously ill and two young girls lost their lives.
The deceased children have been identified as 9-year-old Alisha Bibi and 4-year-old Pakeeza Bibi. According to hospital sources, the affected family belongs to the Lower Dir district.
The remaining family members were shifted to a hospital in Timergara for medical treatment and emergency care.
Following reports of suspected cholera and severe diarrhea cases in the area, the Bajaur Health Department launched an immediate response. Acting on the directives of the Deputy Commissioner and the District Health Officer (DHO), a health outbreak response team visited the affected locality to assess the situation.
During the visit, officials collected water samples for laboratory testing to determine the source of the infection. Health authorities stated that the affected family has been provided with essential medicines, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and other medical assistance.
Officials from the Bajaur Health Department said the situation is being closely monitored and that all possible medical facilities are being made available to affected residents. Emergency measures have also been ordered to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease.
Authorities have urged residents to maintain proper hygiene, consume clean drinking water, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of severe diarrhea or dehydration appear.
