Government Lifts 3-Year Ban on Domestic Gas Connections

Lahore:The federal government has decided to lift the three-year ban on new domestic gas connections, a move that will provide relief to thousands of pending applicants.

According to sources, recommendations have been finalized to resume the provision of domestic gas connections. The connections will now be offered based on the **LNG tariff**, rather than the previously subsidized rates.

The process of installing new domestic gas connections is expected to begin during the **upcoming fiscal year**.

Under the proposed plan:

* The fee for a **standard demand notice** will be set at **Rs. 18,000**.
* Under the **urgent policy**, a fast-tracked connection will cost **Rs. 80,000**.

The government had imposed the ban in **2021** due to a shortage in natural gas supply. Since then, thousands of applications submitted to **Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL)** since **2017** have remained pending.

This move is expected to ease public concerns and address the long-standing backlog of gas connection applications.
