F-15 Pilot Claims Encounter with Unusual Iranian Drone Formation During Conflict

Washington:A US fighter pilot involved in the loss of an F-15 aircraft during the Iran conflict has reportedly described an unusual encounter with Iranian drones before his aircraft was brought down.
According to US media reports, the pilot said he observed what appeared to be a “jellyfish-shaped” drone formation in Iranian airspace shortly before the incident. The F-15 crashed in April, and both pilots successfully ejected before being rescued in a subsequent US military special operation.
The pilot claimed that a larger drone was flying above while numerous smaller drones moved beneath it, creating a formation that resembled the tentacles of a jellyfish. He described the scene as looking like a “drone minefield” suspended in the sky.
Reports indicate that the pilot’s account has attracted significant attention among US defense officials, raising questions about the sophistication of emerging drone tactics.
Military analysts quoted in the reports said that, if the pilot’s observations are accurate, the formation could represent an advanced level of drone coordination and operational capability. Some experts have suggested that Iran’s drone program may have benefited from technological cooperation with foreign partners, including China and Russia.
The claims have not been independently verified, and no official assessment has yet been released by US authorities regarding the reported drone formation.
