No Double Standards on Ballistic Missiles, Says PM Shehbaz Sharif
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that it cannot be acceptable for other countries to possess ballistic missiles while Iran is denied the same capability, stressing that there should be no double standards on the issue.
Addressing a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad, the prime minister said there should be no ambiguity on the matter of strategic capabilities and that peace efforts must not be undermined by “spoilers.”
The meeting between the two leaders took place at the delegation level, where both sides discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and cooperation in multiple sectors.
Welcoming the Iranian president, Shehbaz Sharif thanked him for accepting his invitation to visit Pakistan and conveyed goodwill messages for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He also expressed satisfaction over the recent signing of understandings between the two countries.
The prime minister praised the role of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in facilitating diplomatic engagements, calling their efforts commendable. He also acknowledged the courage and spirit of the Iranian leadership and people.
Referring to recent diplomatic efforts, Shehbaz Sharif said that technical negotiations held in Switzerland were significant and that Pakistan, along with friendly countries, had played a constructive role in promoting dialogue and peace.
He reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace and prosperity in the region and will continue to play its role in supporting peaceful resolutions of conflicts.
Shehbaz Sharif further said that Pakistan and Iran are brotherly neighbours and will move forward together for mutual development and future cooperation. He emphasized that both countries are committed to strengthening political, economic, security, and regional ties.
The Iranian president also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan in various fields, including political, economic, security, and regional collaboration.
