Man Killed and Niece Abducted Over Marriage Refusal in Quetta; Family Threatens Self-Immolation Over Delayed Justice

Quetta (News Desk) — A family from Qalat has accused a serving police employee of killing their relative and abducting a young woman after a marriage proposal was allegedly rejected, while also threatening self-immolation due to delays in arrest and recovery.

Addressing a press conference in Quetta, Shah Bibi and Rukhsana Aziz alleged that their brother, Abdul Sattar Nechari, was brutally killed three months ago, while his daughter, Laiba Sattar, was abducted on March 19 by unidentified armed individuals.

The family claimed that after the incident, they received a note suggesting the girl was being held by a banned organization. However, they said security officials later clarified that Laiba was not in the custody of any such group and was instead abducted by a man identified as Abdul Salam.

Rukhsana Aziz stated that Abdul Salam had earlier proposed marriage to Laiba, which the family rejected. She alleged that the refusal led to the murder of Abdul Sattar and the girl’s father, followed by Laiba’s abduction.

She further claimed that despite lodging an FIR and repeated assurances from police authorities, no arrests have been made even after three months. The family also alleged that the main suspect, Abdul Salam, is employed in the police department, while another suspect, his brother Tayyab, is also openly roaming free.

Shah Bibi, the mother of the deceased, expressed deep anguish, accusing Qalat police of inaction despite the suspects’ alleged public presence. She questioned where the family could seek justice.

The affected family has appealed to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the Provincial Home Minister, and the Inspector General of Police to take immediate notice of the case, arrest the suspects, and recover the abducted girl.

They warned that if justice is not delivered promptly, the grieving mother may resort to self-immolation in protest.
