30 Newly Elected Members Take Oath in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly

GILGIT: Thirty out of 33 newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have taken oath, marking the formal start of the legislative session in the region.

The oath was administered by Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Nazir Ahmed Advocate, during the inaugural sitting of the house.

According to details, 13 members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), 9 members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 6 members of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and one member of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) took oath.

PTI-backed independent members were also among those who took the oath.

The Speaker later adjourned the assembly session until 3 PM, after which proceedings are expected to resume for the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and the Leader of the House.

Officials said that notification for three constituencies has been withheld due to court orders, including one seat from Skardu and two from Diamer, preventing three elected members from taking oath.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party has nominated Amjad Hussain Advocate as its candidate for the position of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The next session is expected to be crucial as political parties prepare for key leadership elections within the assembly.
