Explosion at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar Injures 54, 18 Missing

DOHA: An explosion at the Ras Laffan Industrial City LNG processing center north of Doha has left 54 people injured and 18 others missing, according to reports citing Qatar’s Ministry of Interior.

The blast, which was reportedly caused by a technical incident, was strong enough to be heard in the Qatari capital Doha, located south of the facility.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Interior said that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site following the incident. It added that search operations are underway for the missing individuals, with civil defense units and Qatar’s international search and rescue teams actively involved.

Authorities clarified that the explosion did not result in any gas leak that would pose a threat to public safety.

According to the statement, a fire broke out after the explosion but was brought under control shortly afterward by emergency crews.

The incident occurred at a facility within Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest LNG production hubs.

State-owned QatarEnergy confirmed that emergency teams responded promptly but did not specify whether the facility sustained structural or operational damage.

The plant is responsible for supplying gas to Qatar’s domestic market, making it a key component of the country’s energy infrastructure.

Investigations into the cause of the technical failure are currently ongoing, while rescue operations continue to locate the missing workers.
