Pakistan Forms Committee to Review Telecommunication Reorganization Amendment Bill

ISLAMABAD:** Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif** has constituted a committee to review the Telecommunication Reorganization Amendment Bill.

According to official sources, the committee will be headed by Federal Minister for Law and Justice **Azam Nazeer Tarar**. Members of the committee include Senator **Sherry Rehman**, Federal Minister for IT **Shaza Fatima Khawaja**, and **Ahad Khan Cheema**.

The Attorney General **Mansoor Awan** along with experts from the legal and IT sectors have also been included in the committee.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the Right of Way framework under Section 2 of the bill. It will also propose recommendations regarding telecommunication infrastructure, as well as the use of private land for laying telecom installations.

The Prime Minister has directed the committee to complete its review process promptly and submit recommendations at the earliest.

It is worth noting that the National Assembly has already passed the Pakistan Telecommunication Reorganization Amendment Bill, which will now be presented in the Senate.

Under the proposed amendment, private property owners and government institutions will be required to provide space for telecommunications infrastructure. Failure to allow mobile or telecom companies to install optical fiber or towers on private property could result in a fine of up to Rs50 million.
