Dragging Government Employees on Roads Highly Condemnable Act: Awami National Party

Quetta (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Daily) — The Awami National Party has strongly condemned the arrest of Grand Alliance leaders and workers, as well as alleged violence against government employees during protests held in Quetta on the occasion of the provincial budget session.

In a provincial statement, the party said that dragging employees—who play a key role in serving the state and society—onto the streets and attempting to suppress them through force is extremely unfortunate and condemnable.

The statement further alleged that during the protest, women employees were also subjected to mistreatment, violence, and disrespectful behavior, which violates both human dignity and fundamental civil rights. It said such actions are unacceptable in any civilized and democratic society.

The Awami National Party also claimed that the government had previously reached consensus on several points through its committee in consultation with the Grand Alliance and other political parties, but later deviated from those agreements, reflecting bad faith and broken commitments.

The party demanded that all promises made to employees must be honored and that a sustainable solution should be reached through serious negotiations.

It further stated that arrests, alleged retaliatory actions, and the use of force against employees resemble authoritarian practices and are contrary to democratic traditions.

Expressing concern over alleged police violence, the party noted that it was particularly disturbing that the Grand Alliance had previously supported police personnel’s rights and welfare.

The Awami National Party urged the government to immediately release all detained employees, stop all retaliatory actions, conduct transparent investigations into the alleged violence, and resolve all legitimate demands through dialogue.
