Woman Seriously Injured in Shark Attack at Sydney’s Coogee Beach

A 35-year-old woman has been seriously injured after a shark attack at Coogee Beach, one of Sydney’s most popular coastal spots in Australia.

According to news agencies, the woman was swimming in the ocean with two friends when she was suddenly attacked by a shark.

Reports say the attack caused severe injuries to her arm and leg. Lifeguards at the scene managed to rescue her from the water.

A lifeguard involved in the rescue said he was shocked after seeing a shark estimated to be around 11 feet long. He attempted to reach the woman using a paddleboard, but became alarmed when the shark pulled her underwater. Moments later, the woman resurfaced.

A doctor present at the beach stated that the woman suffered deep wounds, with significant tissue damage to her leg and exposed bone, along with similar injuries to her arm.

After receiving first aid on the beach, she was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital for urgent treatment.

Australia has recorded multiple shark attacks in the past. According to data from Flinders University and the New South Wales state government, between 2000 and recent years, the country has averaged 2 to 3 fatal shark attacks annually.
