Pakistan’s Population Surpasses 252 Million, Economic Survey Highlights Demographic Challenges

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s population has exceeded 252 million, according to a fact sheet released under the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, highlighting the challenges posed by the country’s rapidly growing population.

The survey reported that the country’s total population has reached more than 252.09 million people.

Of the total population, approximately 129.54 million are male, while the number of females stands at around 122.45 million.

According to the Economic Survey, the gender gap between males and females has narrowed significantly and now stands at approximately 7.1 million people.

The report underscores the growing pressure on Pakistan’s resources, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment sectors as the population continues to expand. Policymakers and economists have repeatedly stressed the need for effective planning and sustainable development strategies to address the challenges associated with population growth.

The findings form part of the broader Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, which provides an overview of the country’s economic and social indicators ahead of the federal budget.
