34 College Teachers Forced Into Retirement Over Strike in Balochistan

QUETTA: The Balochistan Higher Education Department has forcibly retired 34 college teachers over their alleged participation in a strike, according to official sources.

Among those retired is a Grade-20 professor, while the affected staff also include 16 lecturers in Grade 17, 12 assistant professors in Grade 18, and five associate professors in Grade 19.

Officials said the action was taken against employees of the Colleges Department for allegedly engaging in strike activities. The move marks one of the largest disciplinary actions taken against teaching staff in the province in recent years.

The Higher Education Department had previously taken similar action against three assistant professors, who were also compulsorily retired.

The decision is expected to draw reactions from academic circles and teachers’ organizations, which have previously raised concerns over administrative measures taken against educators involved in protests and strikes.

Further details regarding the grounds for the retirements and any potential appeals by the affected teachers have not yet been released.
