Oil Spill Reported Along 20-Kilometer Stretch of Gwadar Coast, Threatening Marine Life

GWADAR: Crude oil has spread across approximately 20 kilometers of coastline along the western shore of Gwadar, raising concerns about environmental damage and the impact on local fishing activities.
According to reports, large quantities of oil have accumulated along the coast, posing a serious threat to marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of fishermen who depend on the area’s waters.
A senior official from the environmental department stated that the source of the pollution may be linked to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The official suggested that strong westerly winds could have carried the oil from offshore areas toward the Makran coastline.
Environmental authorities are monitoring the situation and assessing the extent of the contamination. Experts have warned that prolonged exposure to crude oil can harm marine species, damage coastal habitats, and negatively affect the local fishing industry.
Further investigations are underway to determine the exact origin of the oil spill and the measures required for cleanup and environmental protection.
