Islamabad Traffic Police Headquarters Operating on ‘Unlawful Occupation’ Land, Report Reveals

ISLAMABAD: The central office of the Islamabad Traffic Police has reportedly been found operating on allegedly unlawful land in the federal capital, according to sources.

Amid official claims of a “grab-free Islamabad,” it has emerged that certain government institutions may themselves be occupying state land without proper authorization. Sources claim that the Islamabad Traffic Police has allegedly taken possession of several acres of Capital Development Authority (CDA) land located on Murree Road near Faizabad.

It is further alleged that no rent has been paid for the use of the land, while no official statement has yet been issued by the Islamabad Police regarding the matter.

However, the Capital Development Authority has presented its position on the issue, stating that the 4.20 acres of land on Murree Road were formally withdrawn in 2008. According to the CDA spokesperson, an alternative 4.20-acre site was allocated to the traffic police in Sector H-11/2 in 2016.

The CDA maintained that the relocation was conditional upon the immediate vacation of the Murree Road site. Despite the allocation of alternative land, the original office at Murree Road reportedly continues to operate.

The authority further stated that continuation of occupation requires formal approval of land-use change and clearance from the Cabinet Division. Without such approval, the use of government land is considered legally invalid.

In 2020, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police reportedly submitted another request for alternative land near Faizabad.

The CDA added that the matter is currently under consideration at the federal cabinet level.
