NAB Chairman Announces Major Reforms to Boost Transparency in Pakistan’s Real Estate Sector

LAHORE: Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lieutenant General (Retired) Nazir Ahmed, has announced comprehensive and historic reforms aimed at improving transparency, protecting investors, and promoting ease of doing business in Pakistan’s real estate sector.

Addressing a meeting at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the NAB chairman said effective measures are being introduced to eliminate fraud, the file culture, and non-transparent transactions in the property market.

He stated that under the new framework, the transfer of plots and property ownership in future real estate projects will be conducted through a regulatory system. He added that cash transactions will be discouraged, and all payments will be required to pass through formal banking channels.

Nazir Ahmed further said that housing schemes will not be allowed to sell more plots than are actually available. Each plot will also be assigned a proper and verifiable identity to ensure transparency and accountability.

Speaking on the occasion, Lahore Chamber President Faheem ur Rehman Sehgal said that transparency, justice, and the rule of law are the foundations of a strong economy. He emphasized the need to further improve governance across public institutions to support sustainable economic growth and investor confidence.
