Government Allows Commercial Import of Used Cars Until June 2026

Islamabad: The government has officially allowed the **commercial import of used vehicles**, with the Ministry of Commerce issuing a formal notification after amending the **Import Policy Order 2022**.
According to the notification, only **used cars not older than five years** will be permitted for import until **June 30, 2026**, subject to strict compliance with environmental and safety standards.
The decision was approved last week on **September 24** by the **Economic Coordination Committee (ECC)**, chaired by the finance minister. The ECC reviewed a detailed summary on the matter before granting approval and amending the relevant provisions of the import policy.
As per the new rules, the **commercial import of used vehicles under five years old** will be subject to existing customs duties plus an **additional 40% regulatory duty**. This additional duty will remain in effect until June 30, 2026, after which it will be reduced by **10% annually**, with complete removal expected by **fiscal year 2029-30**.
The move aims to expand vehicle availability in Pakistan’s market while ensuring compliance with **international environmental and safety benchmarks**.
