Karachi’s prolonged water crisis continues as supply disruptions worsen shortage

Karachi: The severe water crisis that has persisted for months in Karachi remains unresolved, leaving residents struggling to meet their daily water needs.

The situation worsened after a forced shutdown by K-Electric at the Dhabeji Pumping Station on Sunday, which disrupted water supply to the city. On Monday, a fault in K-Electric’s main power cable led to a power outage at the Hub Pumping Station, further reducing water availability.

As a result, many residents, already facing acute shortages, have been forced to purchase expensive water from private tanker operators.

According to a spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, the disruption has affected the supply of approximately 85 million gallons of water per day from the Hub source to Karachi.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for K-Electric stated that electricity supply to the Hub Pumping Station is being maintained through alternative sources while efforts continue to address the issue.

The ongoing shortages have added to the difficulties faced by Karachi residents, many of whom have been coping with irregular water supply for several months.
