HIV Patient Operated Alongside General Patients at Nishtar Hospital Multan

Islamabad (Qudrat Roznama) An HIV-positive patient was reportedly operated on alongside general patients at Nishtar Hospital, raising concerns over medical safety protocols.
According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS), seven surgeries were conducted in the operation theater on Tuesday, and all patients had undergone HIV screening before surgery.
The MS stated that the suspected HIV patient was operated on before the test report was received, while surgeries continued in the same theater the following day as well.
He further said that the operation theater was sealed after the patient’s report returned positive a day later.
Subsequently, HIV tests were conducted on more than 10 doctors and paramedical staff members who had been involved in the procedures.
Following the incident, an inquiry committee headed by the Additional MS has been formed to investigate the matter and determine whether negligence or procedural lapses occurred.
