EU’s New Ambassador Says Imran Khan’s Release Is a Decision for Pakistani Courts

Islamabad: The European Union’s newly appointed Ambassador to Pakistan, Raimonds Karoblis, has said that the decision regarding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan lies solely within the jurisdiction of Pakistan’s judiciary.

Speaking to Geo News, Ambassador Karoblis stated that Pakistan’s demand for Afghanistan to ensure its territory is not used for terrorism is “valid and justified.” He added that forming an opinion on whether the Afghan Taliban have fulfilled their Doha commitments requires more information and assessment.

The EU envoy emphasized the importance of continued dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan, particularly through Türkiye’s mediation efforts. He affirmed that Pakistan’s concerns regarding the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are legitimate.

Responding to a question, Ambassador Karoblis noted that Pakistan’s constitutional amendments are an internal matter, and reiterated that decisions regarding Imran Khan’s release rest entirely with the courts.
