Several influential names surfaced in Pinki drug case, says IG Sindh

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, has said that several influential names have surfaced during the investigation into the Pinki drug case, adding that all individuals involved in purchasing and further supplying narcotics will be exposed.

Speaking to traders at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and later talking to the media on Tuesday, the IG Sindh said that crimes ranging from extortion to drug trafficking are increasingly shifting to cyberspace.

He stated that Anmol alias Pinki may have operated multiple accounts and that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been included in the investigation to examine banking transactions. He also urged the public and media not to glamorize the accused, saying, “Do not glamorize Pinki to the extent that a film is made on the case.” He clarified that the accused has not been given any special security, only appropriate protection.

Javed Alam Odho said police are compiling lists of drug dealers operating around schools and educational institutions, as well as those selling narcotics through digital platforms. He added that, with the support of the Sindh government, authorities are actively working to eliminate drugs and have arrested more than 1,000 criminals linked to narcotics.

“We will not spare anyone involved in the drug trade,” he said.

The IG also discussed ongoing operations in riverine “Katcha” areas, saying the success of the operations is due to the efforts of Sindh Police officers and personnel. He claimed that street crime in Karachi is gradually decreasing every month, while further efforts are underway to improve law and order.

According to him, 41 major dacoits have been killed in the last four months, while 320 suspects surrendered to police. He added that more than 600 criminals have either been arrested or surrendered across a 250-kilometer area.

Odho said there are no longer any no-go areas in Karachi or Sindh and stressed the need for long-term urban planning solutions, including relocating wholesale markets outside the city to reduce traffic congestion.

He further revealed that over 1,700 drug dealers have been arrested in the past three months, while authorities recovered 40 kilograms of crystal meth (“ice”), 560 kilograms of hashish, and other large quantities of narcotics.
