Big Bash League Reportedly Set to Open in India for First Time

CHENNAI: The upcoming season of Australia’s Big Bash League is reportedly set to begin in India, marking a historic shift in the tournament’s opening arrangements.
According to media reports, the opening match of the BBL season is expected to be played in December in Chennai, with early fixtures planned to be hosted in the city. Preparations have reportedly already begun at the venue.
Sources say the initiative has received a positive response from both the Cricket Australia and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, along with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
A five-member delegation from Cricket Australia recently visited Chennai and participated in meetings with local cricket authorities. The delegation also reportedly attended a Chennai Super Kings home fixture during the Indian Premier League.
The visiting team is said to have completed a preliminary inspection of the venue. However, final approval is still pending at the government level, after which an official decision is expected.
