Alarming Rise in Divorce and Khula Cases Reported in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A sharp increase in divorce and khula cases has been reported in the federal capital, raising concerns among legal experts and social circles.

Lawyers say that growing unemployment and drug abuse are among the major factors contributing to the rising trend of marital disputes and family breakdowns. They noted that the number of cases being filed in family courts is increasing rapidly.

According to sources, more than 300 cases are being filed daily in family courts in Islamabad. On average, around 38 khula and maintenance-related cases are reportedly registered every hour.

Officials further revealed that the number of khula cases this year has exceeded 45,000, while more than 9,000 new family-related cases are being registered every month in the federal capital.

Legal experts have expressed concern over the growing burden on family courts and stressed the need for social awareness, counseling services, and economic stability to help address the issue.
