Parliament Formed Through Horse-Trading Does Not Represent the People, Says Mahmood Khan Achakzai

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) — Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai has issued an ultimatum to the government, warning that if former Prime Minister Imran Khan is not provided proper medical treatment and allowed meetings within one week, the opposition will not allow parliament to function.
Addressing the National Assembly session, Achakzai said the youth had overturned all government plans in the February 8 elections and that the public had voted in favor of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, but the winning party was turned into a minority.
He criticized the legitimacy of the current parliament, claiming that legislatures around the world are not formed through “buying and selling,” and alleged that the existing parliament had emerged through political horse-trading. He said the opposition had still tried to run the house despite considering it illegitimate, but the government’s actions were pushing the opposition toward disrupting parliamentary proceedings.
Achakzai warned that if restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan continued, the government should not complain if parliament failed to function. He questioned why the PTI founder, whom he described as ill, had not been shifted to a hospital.
He demanded that Imran Khan be given medical treatment and access to meetings within a week, otherwise “this house will not function anymore.”
The opposition leader also criticized the government for what he called an obsession with imprisoning political opponents. He accused the government of weakening parliament and the judiciary, urging authorities to make parliament the center of policymaking.
Referring to the security situation, Achakzai claimed there was an atmosphere of unrest from Balochistan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and alleged that drones were being used in both provinces.
He called for dialogue among major political leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to reach consensus on minimum national points.
Achakzai further alleged that preparations were underway for another constitutional amendment and warned political leaders to “save this sinking ship.” He said if anything happened to Pakistan, the country’s major political leadership would be held responsible. He also warned that if the political environment was not improved, the country could face serious unrest.
