Balochistan High Court Halts Tender Process Over Possible Demolition of Provincial Assembly Building

The Balochistan High Court has issued an interim restraining order on a tender notice related to the possible demolition of the Balochistan Assembly Building, effectively stopping further action on the matter.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail and Justice Najmuddin Mengal heard the constitutional petitions on Monday. The petitions were filed by lawyers Amanullah Kanrani and Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani.

The court directed the Communication and Works Department Balochistan to refrain from opening the tender notice scheduled for May 7, 2026, and suspended the process until the next hearing on May 11, 2026.

During the proceedings, lawyers representing the petitioners argued that the assembly building is a historic and national heritage site. They maintained that any move to demolish it would not only violate legal requirements but also go against public interest.

The provincial government was represented by Additional Advocate General Shehakeel Baloch, who attended the hearing and presented the official stance.

After hearing preliminary arguments, the court suspended the tender process and adjourned further proceedings until May 11.
