Dubai Sets Up New Monitoring Unit for Bicycles and E-Scooters

Dubai: Authorities in Dubai have established a new monitoring unit to regulate the increasing use of bicycles and e-scooters across the city.
According to officials, the use of bicycles and e-scooters has risen significantly in recent years, prompting the introduction of stricter safety and regulatory measures.
Under the new rules, cyclists will be required to wear helmets and use reflective jackets to improve visibility and reduce accident risks.
For e-scooters, authorities have imposed several restrictions, including a ban on carrying more than one passenger. Riders must also be at least 16 years old, and the maximum speed has been capped at 20 kilometres per hour.
Officials said the new monitoring system aims to enhance road safety, reduce traffic incidents, and ensure compliance with transportation regulations as micromobility continues to expand in the city.
