Print Media Closure Unacceptable, We Will Oppose Any Job-Loss Measures: PPP Balochistan President Senator Umar Gorgage

Quetta – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Balochistan President Senator Sardar Umar Gorgage has said that any move to shut down print media is unacceptable, and the party will oppose all policies that threaten employment.
Speaking to a delegation of the newspaper industry, he said that print media around the world has consistently played a key role in strengthening democracy and amplifying public voices. He emphasized that any decision affecting the sector would also impact thousands of jobs, which goes against the PPP’s pro-people policy.
He said that the party’s core agenda is to provide employment and eliminate unemployment, adding that any step leading to job losses will be strongly resisted.
Senator Gorgage clarified that he has no official information regarding any government policy to shift entirely from print media to a digital-only system. However, he categorically stated that he is not in favor of restricting or shutting down the print media.
He assured the delegation that if any such proposal is under consideration, he would personally take up the matter with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Chief Minister of Balochistan to ensure that full facilities are provided to the print media across the province and the country.
He further reiterated that Pakistan Peoples Party is a democratic and pro-people party that has always respected freedom of expression and public opinion.
The delegation thanked Senator Gorgage for his support and expressed hope that PPP would stand with their demands. They warned that if any move to curtail print media continues, more than 10,000 people could lose their jobs, leading to serious social and economic consequences.
