Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Urges Election Commission to Take Notice of Recruitments in Quetta Metropolitan Corporation

*Quetta:* Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Quetta district, has called on the Election Commission of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the ongoing recruitment process in the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC), terming it illegal and unconstitutional.

In a press release, the party stated that the administrator of QMC has initiated appointments to various small and large posts, which, according to the party, fall within the jurisdiction of the Election Commission’s responsibilities. PkMAP said it had earlier pointed out these irregularities, but no action has been taken so far, despite the recruitment process rapidly moving toward the interview stage.

The party expressed serious concerns that the hurried process raises doubts about transparency and could result in the violation of the rights of deserving unemployed individuals. It warned that corruption, commissions, favoritism, and nepotism could dominate the appointments, further damaging an institution that is already facing severe financial constraints.

PkMAP noted that the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation is currently unable to pay salaries to its existing employees on time, forcing workers to stage protests every month. It added that hundreds of daily-wage employees have already been laid off due to a lack of funds, pushing many families into financial hardship.

The statement further cautioned that new temporary or permanent appointments—especially those that could be terminated after one year, as mentioned in advertisements—would once again jeopardize the livelihoods of dozens of employees and their families.

The party emphasized that all recruitment should be halted immediately until the success of genuine public representatives and the holding of local government elections. It stressed that priority should be given to reviving and stabilizing the institution so that employees receive their salaries regularly, and any future hiring should be conducted transparently and strictly on merit.

PkMAP also appealed to the higher judiciary to take notice of the situation, stop the recruitment process under the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, and direct the Election Commission to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities.
