Maulana Fazlur Rehman Calls for Imran Khan’s Release to Resume Political Role

Islamabad: Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has urged authorities to release Imran Khan, saying he should be given the opportunity to play his political role.
Speaking to journalists in Lahore, Fazlur Rehman said that contacts with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had failed to yield any meaningful outcome.
Commenting on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, he warned that Gulf countries must realize that hosting US military bases has proven detrimental to their interests. He added that Pakistan is playing a mediatory role to prevent the outbreak of a third world war, cautioning that the current situation could escalate into a global conflict if it continues.
Fazlur Rehman also appreciated the defense agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. He criticized past and current policies, stating that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor slowed down during Imran Khan’s tenure and remains stalled, emphasizing the need for consistent policy improvements. He added that the current ruling leadership’s rise is temporary.
Addressing religious education, he said that policies toward madrassas have remained largely unchanged under previous governments, including those led by Pervez Musharraf, PTI, and the current administration. He claimed that madrassas are still facing challenges such as lack of registration and difficulties in opening bank accounts.
