High-Level Meeting on Gwadar Water Crisis Presided Over by PM Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad: A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to address the ongoing water crisis in Gwadar. Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, participated via video link and provided a detailed briefing on the region’s water challenges and ongoing efforts.
The Chief Minister highlighted that due to power instability and electricity supply issues from Iran, the uninterrupted operation of desalination plants in Gwadar faces major difficulties. He pointed out that poor planning of the Khuzdar-Gwadar national grid line results in unstable voltage, severely affecting water supply systems.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti assured that comprehensive planning is underway for a sustainable solution to Gwadar’s water problems. He recommended a reassessment and necessary reforms of the Khuzdar-Gwadar national grid line. Emergency measures are being taken to operate desalination plants using power houses and generators.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed that a long-term solution to Gwadar’s water and electricity problems must be ensured. He directed that the Federal Minister for Power Division, Planning Commission officials, and relevant secretaries visit Gwadar on August 15. The Prime Minister emphasized that, in consultation with the Chief Minister of Balochistan, uninterrupted water supply to Gwadar residents must be guaranteed.
