Model Village Project: Work Underway to Equip 224 Villages in Punjab with Modern Facilities

Lahore: The pace of development across cities and villages in Punjab has accelerated under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. As part of the Model Village Project, work is currently underway to equip 224 villages across the province with modern civic facilities.
In the first phase, 469 villages will receive improved water supply systems, drainage networks, children’s parks, footpaths, and streetlights to ensure that every street is clean, well-lit, safe, and visually appealing. The chief minister has directed that all projects be monitored live and completed within the stipulated timelines.
Provision of clean drinking water, modern sewerage systems, durable roads, sewerage lines laid in green belts, and safe manhole covers are expected to significantly enhance civic amenities. The first phase of the Lahore Development Project has been completed, while the second phase is scheduled to be completed by April 30.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also ordered the establishment of new offices of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), the generation of resources to ensure financial autonomy, and the fast-tracking of the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing project for homeless citizens. Under this initiative, 700 houses are being constructed daily, and loans worth Rs155 billion have been disbursed to 121,477 beneficiaries.
Additionally, road construction, repair, and rehabilitation projects worth Rs204 billion in 52 cities will commence by February 22. The completion of wastewater treatment plants, water filtration plants, and bottled water projects is targeted by June 30 to ensure the provision of clean and safe water to citizens.
According to the chief minister’s vision, every street, road, and village in Punjab is being transformed into a self-sufficient, aesthetically pleasing, and well-facilitated area, paving the way for a truly modern Punjab.
