Social Media “Malicious Campaign” Against Pakistan Army Exposed; Action Decided Against Accounts Targeting Lt. Gen. Hassan Khattak

Islamabad: A so-called malicious social media campaign targeting officers of the Pakistan Army has been exposed, with authorities rejecting claims regarding the alleged arrest of Lt. Gen. Hassan Khattak as completely fake and baseless.
According to reports, a coordinated effort on social media has been spreading misleading narratives aimed at creating distrust between military leadership and the public. In this regard, a purported fake account named “Islamabad Post” along with several WhatsApp groups circulated false claims that Lt. Gen. Hassan Khattak had been arrested.
Officials clarified that the news is entirely fabricated and untrue, and that the concerned officer is continuing to perform his official duties as usual. They further stated that attempts were also made to give the narrative a sectarian or linguistic angle to create misunderstandings among different segments of society.
Investigations reportedly suggest that several accounts involved in this campaign are being operated from abroad with the intent to destabilize Pakistan and create internal discord.
Defense analysts say such propaganda is part of modern hybrid warfare aimed at creating divisions within society, eroding trust in institutions, and fueling unrest through misinformation spread in political and diplomatic contexts.
Experts further emphasized that countering such fake news requires accurate information dissemination and national unity.
The report also confirmed that strict action has been decided against all accounts involved in the campaign against Lt. Gen. Hassan Khattak, as authorities move forward to curb misinformation and online disinformation networks.
