Punjab Approves Easy Installment E-Bike Scheme for Government Employees

Lahore: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a special e-bike scheme for government employees, under which electric bikes will be provided on easy installments to promote affordable and environment-friendly transportation.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting on the transport sector chaired by the chief minister, where several initiatives aimed at modernizing Punjab’s public transport system were approved.
Officials briefed the meeting that 100 electric buses will arrive in Punjab this month, while the total number is expected to reach 714 by June. The chief minister also directed authorities to develop a comprehensive plan for introducing 1,500 electric buses at the tehsil level across the province.
It was further decided that dedicated bus depots for charging and maintenance of electric buses will be established in every division. Under the free transport program, more than 125,000 passengers have already benefited across 21 routes.
The meeting also reviewed progress on mass transit projects in Gujranwala and Faisalabad, along with instructions to expedite repair and construction work on metro bus stations and approve new design plans.
Additionally, Punjab’s first environment-friendly taxi service is also being launched, with the first batch of e-taxis expected to arrive in May and June.
Officials said the initiative aims to provide government employees with convenient, low-cost transport while reducing environmental pollution and improving urban mobility across the province.
