Balochistan MPA Opposes Proposal to Demolish Assembly Building, Calls It Waste of Public Funds

Quetta: Member of the Balochistan Assembly and leader of Balochistan National Party (Awami), Mir Asad Baloch, has strongly opposed the proposed demolition of the existing provincial assembly building, calling it unnecessary and a waste of public resources.
Speaking to the media after an assembly session in Quetta, he said the current assembly building is both aesthetically strong and structurally suitable for legislative functions, and there is no justification for spending large sums on its reconstruction.
He criticized the proposal, stating that if the building is demolished, it raises concerns about where assembly proceedings would be held—whether in a five-star hotel or in temporary arrangements—calling it a matter that requires serious consideration.
Mir Asad Baloch urged the Chief Minister to reconsider the decision and instead prioritize public welfare projects. He suggested that the funds earmarked for the assembly building should be redirected toward healthcare services, particularly for patients suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer, hepatitis, and kidney diseases.
He further stated that citizens are already facing severe difficulties due to inflation and poor governance, adding that the government’s lack of effective policy-making has worsened public hardships.
The MPA also criticized the provincial leadership for ignoring public representatives’ suggestions and making unilateral decisions, terming the cabinet approval for demolition as an “anti-public policy.”
He reiterated that public money should be spent on healthcare and essential services rather than what he described as unnecessary construction projects.
