UK and Allies Support Ceasefire, PM Shehbaz Thanks Partners for Backing Pakistan’s Peace Efforts

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has thanked his British counterpart Keir Starmer for supporting Pakistan’s peace initiatives, reaffirming that Pakistan remains committed to working with its friends and partners, including the United Kingdom, for lasting peace in the region and beyond.
The development comes as the United Kingdom and several allied countries welcomed a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, while also appreciating Pakistan’s role in promoting de-escalation.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the temporary ceasefire as a positive step and stressed that the ultimate goal should be a sustainable end to the conflict. He added that the UK would continue working with international partners to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a joint statement issued on April 8, 2026, countries including France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, along with the European Commission, European Council, and Japan, welcomed the ceasefire and acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan and other partners.
The statement emphasized the need for a swift and lasting resolution to the conflict through diplomatic means, noting that the ceasefire is crucial for protecting Iranian civilians, restoring regional stability, and reducing risks to global energy supplies.
All parties were urged to adhere to the ceasefire, including in Lebanon, while international partners pledged continued cooperation to achieve durable peace in the region.
