PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Hold Call; Tehran Confirms Delegation Visit to Pakistan

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a 45-minute telephone conversation, expressing satisfaction over the ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders discussed the recent ceasefire and the evolving regional situation.
In a post on social media, Shehbaz Sharif praised the Iranian leadership for its “wisdom” in achieving the ceasefire and thanked Tehran for its willingness to engage in talks with the United States in Islamabad. He also conveyed his respects to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The statement added that President Masoud Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the two-week ceasefire and extended good wishes to the people of Pakistan. He also confirmed that an Iranian delegation would visit Islamabad for negotiations.
Diplomatic sources indicated that comprehensive talks between Iran and the United States regarding the ceasefire are expected to take place in Islamabad. Iran is likely to be represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the US side may include Vice President JD Vance and envoy Steve Witkoff.
Separately, during a federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed members on Pakistan’s role in the ceasefire efforts. He commended Army Chief Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their contributions to mediation between the two countries.
