Flu Shot May Lower Alzheimer’s Risk in Older Adults, Study Finds

Islamabad: A new study has revealed that older adults who receive a high-dose flu vaccine may face a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Published in the Journal of Neurology, the research found that individuals given the high-strength vaccine showed a 55% lower risk of cognitive decline, compared to a 40% reduction in those who received the standard flu shot.

The study, which involved nearly 200,000 participants aged 65 and above, adds to mounting evidence that regular vaccination can help protect the brain as people age. Previous research has indicated that an annual flu shot during winter may contribute to lowering the risk of dementia.

Researchers emphasized that there is no evidence linking flu to causing dementia. Instead, they highlighted that the protective benefits of vaccination may become increasingly significant later in life.
